Errors

Every error is JSON with the same shape, a stable code you can switch on, and a human-readable message.

docs is included when there's a page that explains the fix. Messages may be reworded over time; codes won't change within /v1.

Codes

Status	Code	What happened	What to do
400	`invalid_request`	A query parameter is missing, unknown or out of range	Fix the parameter named in `message`
401	`missing_api_key`	No key in `Authorization` or `X-API-Key`	Send your key (how)
401	`invalid_api_key`	The key is malformed, unknown or revoked	Check for typos, or create a new key
403	`account_suspended`	The account broke the fair-use policy	Contact us via GitHub issues
404	`not_found`	Unknown endpoint, region or dish	Check the slug, or list what exists
429	`rate_limited`	Over your per-minute limit	Wait `Retry-After` seconds
429	`quota_exceeded`	Monthly quota used up	Wait for the 1st (UTC), or ask for more
429	`too_many_failed_attempts`	Too many unknown keys from your IP	Fix the key, wait a minute
500	`internal_error`	Something broke on our side	Retry with backoff; open an issue if it persists

Retrying

Retry 429 and 500 responses with exponential backoff, and always respect Retry-After. Don't retry 4xx errors other than 429: they'll fail the same way again.
